Untitled Self Portraits #01

Archival Inkjet Prints
This work is a deceptively playful approach to a very serious topic. Distorting her own body by using tape and digital manipulation, Coombe has created abstract human figures to comment on the societal importance placed on physical perfection in the 21st century. She believes, in essence, we are simply carcasses, skin and bone, our body is a tool and should not be represented as an object of superficial perfection, for in our efforts to achieve this perfection we can enter psychological and physical danger.
